Leadership: Continuous Improvement

Leading a Lean Six-Sigma Initiative

As part of my yellow belt project, I led an initiative to streamline the department’s project intake process.

I began by identifying a common issue as stated by both the Learning department’s team members and our clients: poor information gathering at the project onset.

Data Collection and Analysis

I gathered data from key stakeholders to determine the current intake time. This enabled me to establish a baseline to work against.

I continued to work with stakeholders to identify potential solutions, using the data I gathered to support the change management initiative with our clients and team members.

Finally, I presented the continuous improvement initiative to leadership at the company and obtain buy-in before implementing the solution.

Facilitating Process Mapping Sessions

I then facilitated focus groups with our business clients and internal teams to process map the existing process, including any known gaps.

Along the way, I conducted a risk analysis to plan for ways to mitigate the early termination of the project or changes in scope.

Results

The intake process was reduced from approximately 35 days to 5 business days, allowing projects to kick off that much sooner and lending to a better rapport with internal clients.
